Rustys Kidney

A good friend of mine, and a guy who I have admired and respected for years had this shitty kidney. He had it removed, and jumped back into life almost immediately (literally), I've never seen anyone recover from the flu so fast and gracefully, and this was a serious operation he had done. Well, I thought he deserved a new kidney, so I carved this for him. It's hand carved out of basswood than painted and super shellaced to give it an "organ" feel. I think it took me longer to make than it took him to recover, and I work pretty fast. It's a piece I'm pretty proud of, I wanted to let him know how in awe of his strength I am, and how happy his recovery made me, and a ton of other people. His old kidney had a tumor, this one has a skull, I think it's an improvement.

Objet Petit Ahh
             pinata themed group show.

I chose to make George Zimmerman's head, and fill it with over 30 little kids in hoodies I carved. I am usually not an overly political artist, but seem like however these fact come out in court, a man with a gun followed a man (a much younger and smaller man) who did not have a gun, and than shot him to death. Somehow no arrest made, one has been made since, but if woulds not have happened if people didn't stand up like they did and demand it. I hope through all if it we learn something, and not just that hand carving and painting 35 little dudes wearing hoodies is easier than making a pinata.
